Fan Controllers for Indoor Gardening

SMSCOM 6.5amp Smart Controller

As important as an extraction system is to your grow room, you aren't always going to need the fans running at full speed. Find out why a fan controller can help regulate the airflow in your grow room and maintain a temperature your plants can thrive in!

Quick Considerations When Buying a Fan Controller

If you’re looking for the best fan speed controller for indoor gardening, be sure to consider the following features when making your decision:

  • Adjustable speed range – You should be able to adjust the speed of your fan so that it runs at different speeds throughout the day. This will help keep your plants healthy by ensuring that they receive enough light during the day and heat at night.
  • Types - you'll most commonly see voltage or resistive fan controllers. Voltage fan controllers tend to be quieter; they modify the power output with a variac which alters the fan's power supply. Resistive fan controllers are the noisier ones which slow your fans down and help you balance intake and extraction. They're particularly useful for creating negative pressure in your grow room.
  • Minimum Speed – As mentioned earlier, you aren't always going to need your extractor fans on full blast, the opposite is also true. Even moreso actually. Its speed needs to remain high enough to eleminate stale air from your grow room, including when the space is cold. If allowed to run too low, your crops might not be replenishing CO2 quick enough to promote adequate growth.
